Police: Woman arrested after threats to shoot man, officers at Fife motel

UPDATE as of 2:30 a.m. SWAT officers entered the room and took the woman into custody, Gardner said. No one was hurt. The man appears to have left the room between when witnesses called 911 and when officers arrived, according to police. Investigators were still searching the room, and it was not yet clear if the woman had been armed. She was arrested on suspicion of felony harassment, Gardner said.

INITIAL POST: Police were trying to negotiate with a woman they believed to be holding a man hostage Wednesday night at the Fife Econo Lodge.

Fife police Capt. Aaron Gardner gave this account:

Witnesses called 911 about 6:30 p.m. to say they heard a woman in one of the rooms threatening to shoot a man, at motel at 3501 Pacific Highway East.

When officers arrived, the woman yelled from inside the room that she was armed and was going to shoot the officers if they tried to come inside.

She refused to answer the door, and as of 10 p.m. had not been communicating with negotiators.

The Metro Pierce SWAT team was at the motel.

Police believe they know who the man is, but “have no idea who the female is right now,” Gardner said.
