See a SWAT team in Puyallup on Monday night? Here’s what was happening

With the help of Puyallup police, Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 36-year-old man accused of assaulting a person inside a self-storage facility last month.

Deputies were dispatched on June 16 to Arm Guard Self Storage at the 6800 block of 112th Street East after a man reportedly struck a person in the head with a metal tire thumper bat. The man previously had been arguing with the victim and pulled a gun on them. The man sprayed bear mace on the victim before he allegedly struck them, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune.

The gender of the victim and whether they worked at the storage facility was not immediately available.

The man ran off before deputies arrived. No firearms were found, but a vehicle and the thumper were taken, Cappetto said. A bulletin was put out on June 24 for the man’s arrest.

Officers from the Puyallup Police Department spotted the man in the 1100 Block of 7th Avenue Southeast on Monday night.

Police and Metro Swat were in the area for the investigation, according to Puyallup police on X at 10:04 p.m.

Cappetto said the man barricaded himself inside a home on 7th Avenue, and Pierce County’s SWAT Unit was dispatched to the scene. She said that when SWAT arrived with their vehicles and equipment, the man surrendered.

He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault.
