A vehicle struck a pedestrian and power pole in Tacoma Wednesday morning, leaving many without power.

Officers were dispatched at 4:48 a.m. to the 7600 block of Pacific Avenue for the crash. The driver of the vehicle had hit the pedestrian before colliding with the power pole, Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Sgt John Correa told The News Tribune.

Both of the northbound and southbound lanes were closed as a result of the crash, the department posted on X.

Traffic signals nearby and housing developments lost power, Correa said. Nearly 2,000 people were without power for a few hours, Fox13 reports.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital with no significant injuries, Correa said. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

After an hour and a half, the roadway was back open. Crews continued to work on the damaged power pole. Nearby traffic signals may still be out, the X post said.

Around 90 people are still without power as of 7:50 a.m., according to Tacoma Power Utilities.
