One dead after vehicle vs pedestrian crash on Fourth of July in Pierce County

A pedestrian is dead after they were struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Pierce County.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a driver was headed north on state Route 7 near 143rd Street South when they left the road and struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

Trooper John Dattilo posted on X that the pedestrian died after life-saving measures.

The driver has been arrested and will likely be charged with driving under the influence vehicular homicide, according to Dattilo’s post.

According to the WSP X page, the incident happened around 6:43 p.m. All northbound lanes were blocked as of 7:15 p.m.
