2 people in critical condition after being shot at Pierce County motel
Two people were injured, and one person is in police custody after a shooting in a Fife motel parking lot early Thursday morning.
Fife police were dispatched at 1:17 a.m. to the Motel 6 in the 5200 block of 20th Street for a shooting in progress. Patrol officers were joined by Milton police, Puyallup Tribal police and Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Fife Police Department assistant chief Doug Newman told The News Tribune via phone call.
Police set up containment to assess the situation, Newman said.
The department received a call from Tacoma Police Department officers that two people suffered gunshot wounds and were in the city, he said. It was determined they sustained the gunshot wounds outside the Motel 6.
Five people at the motel were detained, Newman said. One was determined to be the suspect through the investigation, and he was arrested.
Newman said both male victims are in critical condition at a hospital. Information on the motive for the shooting was not immediately available.
Detectives were on scene Thursday morning for the investigation.
