Pierce County man crashes into SUV carrying 6. He faces vehicular assault charge

A Pierce County man, suspected of driving under the influence, faces a vehicular-assault charge after triggering a wreck southeast of Graham on Saturday, according to Washington State Patrol.

The 52-year-old Graham man was hurt in the crash and taken to Tacoma General Hospital, troopers say.

Just before 5 p.m., the Graham man was headed north on 132nd Avenue East, approaching 288th Street East, which is north of the Kapowsin Highway.

Meanwhile, an SUV carrying six people, ages 3 to 57, was headed west on 288th Street, approaching 132nd Avenue.

Troopers say the Graham man failed to yield, and the SUV crashed into him.

The impact of the crash caused the SUV to roll onto its side, while the Graham man’s truck wound up in a ditch, according to State Patrol.

Only one person in the SUV was hurt: a 57-year-old Graham woman, who also was taken to Tacoma General Hospital.
