Man, 48, shot in South Hill area. Accused shooter arrested after SWAT standoff
A man barricaded himself in a home Thursday morning after allegedly shooting another person in the South Hill area.
Deputies were dispatched at 7:06 a.m. to 166th Street Court East for a shooting. Deputies found a 48-year-old man who had been shot. He was stable and taken to a local hospital, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune. The shooting happened in the street.
A 20-year-old was identified as the suspected shooter. He ran into a home in a neighborhood where he barricaded himself, she said. SWAT negotiators and K-9 units were at the scene to persuade the man to comply. Cappetto said several adults trickled out of the home during the standoff.
After two hours of negotiating, the man complied with SWAT and was taken into custody, Cappetto said. Detectives were conducting interviews and serving a warrant on the home Thursday.
It is unknown what led up to the shooting and what the relationship was between the alleged shooter and the victim, she said. Deputies are waiting to speak to the victim.
There was no threat to the community or neighborhood. Edgerton Elementary School, which sits a block or two away from the shooting scene, closed for the day due to the police activity, according to its website.
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting surveillance video from the Emerald Pointe neighborhood that may have captured footage from the shooting around at 7 a.m.
Video footage can be submitted to the QR code on the photo of the map.
