Gig Harbor woman killed in crash in Kitsap County after driver loses control
A single-car crash near Port Orchard left a Gig Harbor woman dead on Oct. 9.
A 61-year-old man driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer on westbound state Route 16 near Mattress Ranch lost control of the car at about 2:35 p.m. The car went off the right side of the roadway and stopped down an embankment, according to the Washington State Patrol in a news release.
The Bremerton man and his passenger, a 46-year-old woman, were taken to a hospital. The man was injured, the release said. The woman died at the hospital.
The woman was identified as Erika R. Perkins after next of kin were notified, the release said.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt while Perkins was. No drugs or alcohol were involved.
The cause of the crash is listed as distracted driving, according to the release. Charges are pending for the driver.
