WA state trooper, second person hurt when alleged DUI driver hits patrol car

A suspected DUI driver is accused of striking a State Patrol vehicle, injuring a trooper and another person, near Milton on Thursday.

The trooper was conducting a traffic stop when another car struck the WSP vehicle on southbound Interstate 5 near the King-Pierce county line, according to WSP Trooper Kameron Watts on X. The Washington State Department of Transportation reported the incident at around 12:09 a.m.

The trooper and the person who originally was stopped were taken to a hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries, Watts said.

The alleged DUI driver was taken into custody.

The southbound I-5 lanes re-opened at around 4:23 a.m.
