Child taken to hospital for possible assault in Tacoma. 1 man arrested

Firefighters were called to an apartment building in Tacoma on Thursday for a child needing CPR. When they got there, they called police.

Tacoma firefighters were dispatched at about 10:19 a.m. to an apartment near St. Helens Avenue and South 1st Street for a 2-1/2-year-old who needed CPR. Tacoma Police Department spokesperson officer Shelbie Boyd told The News Tribune that after detectives arrived, they placed a man under arrest on suspicion of first-degree assault of a child.

Jail records show a 26-year-old man was booked for investigation of that charge at 9:11 pm.

Boyd said the child was taken to a hospital and assessed there. Further details on the incident were not released.
