Lockdown of central Pierce County schools lifted. Shooting investigation goes on

A large area in Midland was shut down after a shooting Wednesday morning.

People inside a vehicle and a homeowner were involved in a shooting near 104th Street East and 13th Avenue Court East. Multiple witnesses reported seeing people outside the home shooting at each other, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune.

A man, who is the homeowner, was struck. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Cappetto said.

Deputies believe a woman and man were in the vehicle. They ran off and deputies were searching for them.

Roads were closed for the search. Ford Middle School was placed on lockdown at 10:45 a.m. Midland Elementary School and Franklin Pierce High School were placed in a modified lockdown due to their proximity. All staff and students were safe, and the lockdowns later were lifted, according to the district,

Residents were asked to stay in their homes and report any suspicious activity.

The alleged shooters had not been found as of Wednesday evening.
