Accused DUI driver fatally strikes Pierce County woman backing into driveway

A 27-year-old driver is accused of fatally striking a woman’s vehicle while intoxicated Sunday in Pierce County.

Deputies were dispatched around 3:30 a.m. to the 9000 block of Golden Given Road East for the crash. The 69-year-old woman was backing her vehicle into her driveway after coming home from work when she was T-boned, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in a blotter post.

The post said the woman died at the scene.

The driver was trapped inside his car and sustained serious injuries, the post said.

He will be booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide and DUI.
