A person has died after being crashed into by a suspect fleeing a state trooper in Tacoma, according to an update Friday from the Washington State Patrol.

The wreck occurred Tuesday and blocked the intersection of 72nd Street East and McKinley Avenue.

“The suspect in this case is still awaiting medical clearance and their charges have been upgraded to Vehicular Homicide,” WSP spokesperson Kameron Watts posted on X on Friday. “The victim in this case tragically passed away at the hospital despite the intense efforts of medical personnel.”

Watts previously said the incident began when a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle, which drove away and hit another car. The fleeing vehicle caught fire and the trooper pulled that driver to safety. The other driver was trapped in their car and needed to be extracted.
