Why was a law enforcement helicopter in the Puyallup area? Here’s what we know
A helicopter in the Puyallup and Frederickson area this morning had to do with a SWAT response and the King County Sheriff’s Office and Seattle Police Department serving a warrant, officials confirmed.
Rumors circulated on social media about what the helicopter was doing in the area, including about whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were involved.
Brandyn Hull, spokesperson for the KCSO, told The News Tribune they did use a helicopter this morning to assist the Seattle Police Department with a warrant. Hull declined to give further information.
The News Tribune then called SPD. Eric Muñoz, spokesperson for SPD, confirmed that officers were involved in a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) operation in the area this morning.
He said he would reach out to those officers to learn more about the operation and reach out to The News Tribune with more information.
The News Tribune asked Muñoz if the FBI or ICE were involved, and he said not to his knowledge.
Carly Cappetto, spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, sent The News Tribune an email at 1:37 p.m. on Wednesday that this was a narcotics operation.
“This was a multi-agency collaborated narcotics operation. Upon the completion of the operation I will gather the details for you at a later [date],” Cappetto wrote. “This was not an immigration or ICE enforcement operation.”
This is a developing story. The News Tribune will update this article as more information becomes available.
