1 injured, 1 arrested after shooting at University Place apartment unit

A shooting in University Place left one person injured early Friday morning.

University Place deputies were dispatched at 1 a.m. to an apartment building in the 5600 block of Hannah Pierce Road West. Several holes in the unit’s front door and shell casings were found at the scene, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune via email.

Deputies learned the victim went to a local hospital with a single gunshot wound, she wrote. The victim was in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive.

“During the initial investigation with deputies on scene, the suspect returned to the scene and was identified by a witness on scene and was taken into custody,” according to Cappetto.

A Glock with a “switch,” which is used to turn a pistol into a fully automatic firearm, was recovered in his waist band.

Detectives and forensic units investigated the scene.
