A 52-year-old man who stole a pickup truck was arrested after a high-speed chase ended with him crashing into a patrol car, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to a Facebook post from the Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement first saw the stolen pickup truck on March 10 at 5 a.m. as it pulled into a parking lot near 116th Street East and Canyon Road East.

The driver “initially appeared to stop for deputies,” according to the post, but then sped off northbound on Canyon Road East.

Police chased him, the post said, and the chase ended after he crashed into a patrol car in the Graham area near 200th Street East and Orting Kapowsin Highway East.

The man “smelled strongly of intoxicants and was found in possession of two baggies of methamphetamine,” the post said.

“Deputies were fortunate to get this suspect off the road before he could harm anyone. After a search warrant was served, a loaded revolver was also located inside the vehicle,” the post said. “Two patrol vehicles sustained moderate damage during the incident and will require repairs.”

The post said that he faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including:

  • Possession of a stolen vehicle
  • Eluding
  • Driving under the influence
  • Second-degree assault
  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance
  • Third-degree driving with a suspended license
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
