‘Wrong place wrong time.’ Man injured after shooting in Pierce County

A 26-year-old man was injured after he was caught in the crossfire of a shootout in the Midland area of Pierce County on Sunday night.

Deputies were dispatched at 7:26 p.m. to the Golden Given Terrace Apartments in the 1100 block of 99th Street Court East. Dozens of 911 callers reported hearing about 20 to 70 gunshots in the area. One person reported that a man had been shot, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune via email.

The man was found with non-life threatening gunshot wounds when deputies arrived. He was taken to local hospital. The people involved in the shooting had left the scene.

“Preliminary investigation indicates this may have been a shooting between two parties, and the 26-year-old male victim got caught up between the gunfire. Wrong place wrong time it sounds like,” Cappetto wrote.

No one has been arrested.

Cappetto wrote over 20 shell casings were scattered over the parking lot. There were unoccupied vehicles with shattered windows and bullet holes.

“This is a very active scene. Detectives and forensics all also on scene,” she wrote.
