Medical Examiner IDs two killed in Puyallup shooting during family dispute

A fatal shooting in a Puyallup neighborhood Thursday morning began with a dispute among a father and his two adult daughters, according to police.

The 47-year-old man is either the father or stepfather of both victims, Puyallup Police Department spokesperson Captain Kevin Gill told The News Tribune on Friday. Investigators are still determining that, he said. The man fatally shot his 23-year-old daughter and shot and injured his 26-year-old daughter, police said, before a neighbor responded and fatally shot him.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner Office’s public information portal identified the father Friday as Arnino Velasco Guanlao of Puyallup. The portal identified the 23-year-old who died as Christiannel Lyle Macapagal Maningat of Puyallup. They died at the scene, police said.

The Medical Examiner has not yet confirmed Guanlao and Maningat’s cause and manner of death.

The incident started at about 9:10 a.m. on Thursday when the dispute spilled into the road near the intersection of 13th Avenue Court Northwest and 31st Street Northwest. All three family members ended up in a neighbor’s driveway and garage, according to the Puyallup Police Department in a news release.

“One adult male family member was armed with a handgun and shot two adult female family members,” the release said.

A neighbor across the street was inside his home during the shooting, the release said. Police said he went outside when he heard the noise and fatally shot the father. The neighbor is cooperating with the investigation, Gill said.

“Central Pierce Fire and Rescue arrived and administered aid, eventually transporting one victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries,” the release said.

Gill said on Friday that the 26-year-old woman who was hospitalized is in stable condition and is expected to recover.

The circumstances of what led to the shooting are under investigation and have not been released.
