2 men injured in shooting at neighborhood grocery store in Tacoma

Update, 5:27 p.m.: Both victims are in critical but stable condition, Sgt. John Correa told The News Tribune.

“It doesn’t look like anyone is going to die,” Correa said.

Original story: A shooting at a Tacoma grocery store left two people injured Thursday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched at 12:33 p.m. to Park Avenue Foods Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Sgt. John Correa told The News Tribune.

The shooting occurred between both men. Correa said one of the victims is an owner of the business. It is currently unknown if the second injured man was a customer.

Both men were taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds, he said. Over the radio it was initially reported they were in critical condition. Correa said they are in surgery and did not have an update on their current conditions.

Correa said it is currently undetermined what led up to the shooting.

Police are not actively looking for the shooter, he said. One of the witnesses is an employee who is being interviewed by detectives.

Park Avenue from 72nd Street to 73rd street is shut down. Forensic units are processing the scene while detectives investigate.
