Man killed in shooting at Tacoma encampment identified, ME’s office reports

A man who died after a shooting in Tacoma last week has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Khiree Shakur Johnson-Scott, 32, died from a gunshot wound of the chest on April 23. His manner of death was ruled a homicide, the office wrote in its public information portal.

The shooting occurred at an encampment, the office wrote.

“My brother was a brother, he was a father and a son. He called any chance he could get. He did whatever he could to make me smile,” a representative for the family of Johnson-Scott told The News Tribune.

Officers were dispatched at about 9 p.m. to the 1100 block of South J Street, according to a Tacoma Police Department news release. Johnson-Scott was found injured from an apparent gunshot wound.

The release said officers began life-saving measures until Tacoma Fire Department personnel arrived. Johnson-Scott was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

No arrests have been made. The News Tribune has reached out to the police department for an update.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 911.
