Police are investigating a shooting that happened earlier this week near Spanaway.

According to a news release from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred May 13 at about 5:15 p.m in the 25400 block of 35th Ave East. When police arrived, they learned a man had pulled up in a red vehicle, shot the victim – a 19-year-old man – and then sped away.

A bystander used his belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, the release said, and a deputy administered first aid.

The victim was transported to a hospital “in serious condition,” the release said.

About two hours later, deputies found a vehicle matching the suspect’s car on fire at Weiler Road East and 49th Avenue East in Spanaway. Residents in the area had already put out the fire.

“The vehicle was listed as a recent stolen vehicle,” the release said. “The suspect(s) are outstanding and this is an active investigation.”
