Police officer arrested for immoral communications with minor released on bail
An Auburn police officer who has been accused of inappropriately communicating with a minor is out on bail.
According to the Pierce County Jail roster, the 42-year-old man was released on Sunday, May 17 on $100,000 bail.
“[The case] is pending,” Adam Faber, spokesperson for the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, wrote in an email to The News Tribune on Tuesday. “When he bailed out over the weekend on $100,000 bail, the court set a return date of June 2.”
Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested the man on the morning of Friday, May 15, at the Auburn Police Department station, The News Tribune previously reported.
“[We] arrested a commissioned officer with the Auburn Police Department for felony immoral communication with a minor,” PCSO said in a news release at the time. “The officer was taken into custody without incident and was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the filing of formal charges.”
The News Tribune previously asked Carly Cappetto, spokesperson for PCSO, if the victim was located in Pierce County.
“The investigation is ongoing in terms of the victim in Pierce County,” Cappetto wrote in a message to The News Tribune on May 15. “But yes, this case is in our jurisdiction and our [Internet Crimes Against Children] team is leading the investigation.”
The chief of the Auburn Police Department, Mark Cailler, worked with PCSO to arrest the officer at APD’s station, the release said.
“The allegations in this case are deeply troubling and do not reflect the values, professionalism, or integrity of the Auburn Police Department. Our duty as officers is to ensure the safety and well-being of the public, especially children,” Caillier said in the release. “This officer has broken that trust, and this incident will be handled as promptly as possible, while still ensuring that due process is followed.”
