Man arrested in Tacoma for first-degree murder
The Tacoma Police Department has arrested a 30-year-old man for murder in connection to a missing-persons case.
According to a news release from TPD, the man is facing a charge of first-degree murder and was arrested on Wednesday. It was his second arrest in the case.
Everything started on April 1, the release said, when South Sound 911 learned about a possible missing person.
“Officers conducted a welfare check at the provided address and determined the individual was not there,” the release said. “A report was completed and assigned to Tacoma Police Detectives for further investigation.”
While investigating, officers found probable cause to arrest the man for two counts of identity theft and one count of felony harassment.
Police arrested the man on May 15 and booked him into Pierce County Jail, the release said, but he was released from custody on Monday, May 18. Court records say he was released on his own recognizance, meaning he left without bail on condition that he would return for all court appearances and obey any conditions of the release.
After he was released, officers continued their investigation and found probable cause for first-degree murder, the release said. They arrested him on May 20 after “a brief foot pursuit.”
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the release said. “Updates will be provided as they become available.”
