Roadside shooting kills 17-year-old boy in Parkland — investigation underway
A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in Parkland Sunday evening and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is seeking surveillance footage that may have captured suspects fleeing the area.
The initial dispatch call came at 7:13 p.m., according to a social media post from sheriff’s spokesperson Carly Cappetto, who referred to “the tragic homicide” of a 17-year-old.
The boy was found in lying in the roadway in the 10200 block of Sheridan Avenue South, a few blocks west of Pacific Avenue. Responding deputies tried to save the boy’s life, to no avail.
Initial information from Cappetto’s statement said the boy was walking along the road when a car pulled up and called him over. Unknown individuals robbed the boy of jewelry, shot him, and drove away.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office posted on social media that it was seeking surveillance footage from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday that may have captured suspects in the area of 102nd Street South and Sheridan Avenue South in Parkland, where the shooting took place. The suspects may also have been seen within a five-mile radius of the shooting location, the sheriff’s office said.
“The victim had been walking near the tennis courts by Washington High School, then towards 108th St. S to Sheridan Ave S.,” according to the sheriff’s office. “Suspects may have been captured on surveillance in any of those areas. The victim was walking near the tennis courts by Washington High school.”
The investigation remains active. The sheriff’s office is seeking assistance from anyone with information or surveillance footage.
