Suspects arrested in connection to murder of 17-year-old Pierce Co. teen
Two people have been arrested in connection to the murder of a Parkland teen.
Carly Cappetto, spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, told The News Tribune Monday morning the suspects were arrested in Snohomish County on Monday morning. They are a 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man.
The student, 17-year-old Braylon Daniel Diaz, died on Sunday, May 24 after a few people pulled up to him in a car, robbed him of his jewelry and shot him. Deputies received the call at 7:13 p.m. and found Diaz’s body in the 10200 block of Sheridan Avenue South, a few blocks west of Pacific Avenue.
Cappetto told The News Tribune the suspects were together in the same vehicle, but the 26-year-old woman fled when the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man. Officers later found her at a Walmart in Tulalip at 8924 34th Ave E.
PCSO is still searching for two additional suspects at large, Cappetto said.
Police previously found the suspect vehicle in the Federal Way area on May 28, The News Tribune previously reported. Cappetto told The News Tribune at the time that the discovery of the car made it possible for them to search for suspects.
Diaz was a third-year student at Washington High School, The News Tribune previously reported. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with Diaz’s funeral expenses and to support his family during a challenging time.
“Braylon’s life was cut short far too soon, and his loss has left a deep void in the hearts of everyone who knew him,” the fundraiser said.
As of Monday at 8 a.m., the GoFundMe had raised $30,915.
