Puyallup police shoot man armed with baton after domestic violence call
A man in his 30s was shot Friday night by Puyallup police following a domestic disturbance call, the Puyallup Police Department announced in a press release.
Puyallup officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of 4th Avenue Northwest at around 7:23 p.m. after receiving a call from a woman stating her brother was “trying to kill her,” the release said. Dispatch also reported the suspect breaking windows at the residence.
When the first officer arrived to the scene, the suspect charged at him with a metal baton in the street, the release said.
The officer fired shots at the suspect, causing the man to sustain life-threatening injuries, according to the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The male was taken to a Tacoma hospital for treatment and continues to be treated there as of Saturday morning, OII Communications Director Hector Castro told The News Tribune.
Both the Pierce County Force Investigation Team and Washington State OII is investigating the incident.
