Citizens needed for Tacoma police advisory panel

A Tacoma police advisory panel is seeking six new members.

The 11-person Citizen Police Advisory Committee reports to the City Council regarding police department policy.

Committee members review policy, monitor “trends in complaint investigation and statistical reports,” and do community outreach.

The committee is made up of one person from each City Council district, five from the general community and one youth member. At least 40 percent of the group must represent traditionally underrepresented communities.

Members must be registered voters, must have lived in Tacoma for at least two years, must not hold another public office, and cannot be a Tacoma police officer or be an immediate family member of a police department employee.

Applications must be submitted to the city clerk’s office by Wednesday.
