Auburn police investigating 11 arsons

Auburn police are investigating a string of arsons that has targeted 11 buildings in just over a month.

Since October, someone has set nine fires in the city’s north end and two in the south end. The last five blazes happened Nov. 5 and Sunday.

The fires started between 6 and 11 p.m. and do not appear to target specific people, police Cmdr. Steve Stocker said.

No one has been hurt, but several homes sustained significant damage.

Detectives said there does not appear to be a connection with a man arrested in September on suspicion of starting several fires in dumpsters and along trails. The man was in custody when the structure fires occurred.

Auburn police, Valley Regional Fire Authority and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating.
