Shooting victim drives to Tacoma elementary school, prompting lockdown

A man who was shot in the leg drove to McCarver Elementary School on Friday, prompting a brief lockdown.

Police were unsure where the shooting took place or who pulled the trigger.

The man drove into the parking lot of the school at 2111 S. J St. about 8:30 a.m. and crashed into a parked car, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

Officials immediately placed the campus on lockdown while they called police and tried to sort out what happened.

The man, who was shot once in his right thigh, was taken to a local hospital and was expected to recover.

He told officers the shooting occurred on South 17th Street but police have yet to find evidence of a shooting there.
