Woman hurt in Meeker Days zip line accident sues manufacturer and operator

A woman hurt when she fell about 10 to 15 feet while riding a zip line at the 2014 Meeker Days in Puyallup has sued.

Tessa Naber and her husband, David Naber, seek unspecified damages in their lawsuit, which alleges that negligence on the part of the manufacturer and owner-operator of the amusement ride caused the accident.

According to the lawsuit, Thrillworks Inc., doing business as Extreme Engineering, made the zip line. Clowns Unlimited Inc. bought the zip line and operated the ride at Meeker Days.

Attorneys for the companies declined to comment on the suit.

Naber was riding the zip line about 4:30 p.m. June 21, 2014, when the line went slack and she fell to the asphalt below, according to the lawsuit, filed Oct. 7.

She suffered injuries to her head, pelvis, tailbone, ankles and feet, court records state.

Her attorney, Terry E. Lumsden, said the winch being used to keep the cable tight failed and had warnings that the winch was not made to support people or sudden weight.

A hand brake that should have stopped the line also failed, he said.
