Sumner High School ‘modified lockdown’ lifted

UPDATE: The City of Sumner tweeted at 12:24 p.m. that the area was cleared by police and the lockout was lifted.

ORIGINAL POST: Sumner High School was on a modified lockdown about 11:15 a.m. Monday after a man allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend at an address near the school, city officials said.

There was no direct threat to students or staff at the school, 1707 W. Main St.

Authorities said a 45-year-old man attacked the couple and then fled. The injuries to the couple were not immediately reported. Police were searched for the attacker.

The school was placed on alert as a precaution.

Under a modified lockdown, exterior doors are locked and staff and students are prohibited from exiting the building. They are allowed to go about their business inside the school, according to the Sumner School District website.
