Holy Rosary locked down while Tacoma police deal with screaming man
Holy Rosary Regional School/Juan Diego Academy was locked down Monday morning while Tacoma police dealt with a screaming man at the front of the school.
School officials called police to report a screaming man without shoes running in and out of traffic.
Officers came to the school in the 500 block of 30th Street and contacted the man and told him to leave the property or face arrest, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
The man, who was experiencing mental health complications, then left the school, Cool said.
In an email to parents Holy Rosary Principal Katie Dempsey said the school was on lock down for a short time while police responded.
“The man remained outside the building at all times during the incident,” she wrote.
All doors to the building were locked and windows covered. Students were asked to remain quiet.
“The students are our top priority and we made sure that they were safe the entire time and they did a great job following the school rules,” Dempsey wrote.
