A jammed cash register drawer at a Tacoma coffee stand foiled a robber’s plan, but sent him across the parking lot to hold up a convenience store.

Tacoma police hope the public can help identify the robber, who carried a handgun and tried to hide his face by pulling up a gray hooded sweatshirt.

The attempted robbery happened about 8:10 a.m. Dec. 23 after the man walked into the Green Bean coffee stand in the 8200 block of South Hosmer Street, flashed a gun and demanded money.

The barista tried to open the cash drawer, but it was stuck.

The robber left, walked across the parking lot and held up a Union 76 Food Mart at gunpoint.

No one was hurt in either incident.

The robber was described as a black man in his late-20s, about 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He wore black pants, a gray knit beanie and a gray hoodie.
