Lakewood police search for man in attempted kidnapping
Lakewood police are trying to identify a man who tried to drag a woman into his car last month as she walked home from a corner store.
The attack took place about 4:30 a.m. Jan. 13 near the 10820 block of 59th Avenue SW.
The woman left the store and started walking west on 108th Street SW when a man pulled up beside her in a dark blue Chrysler PT Cruiser and asked if she had a cigarette.
She said no and kept walking. The man got out of the car, grabbed her from behind and started pulling her toward the car.
Her jacket and shoes fell off in the struggle and she was able to get away by kicking the man in the groin. When the man fell down, she ran home and called 911.
Police said the woman did not recognize her attacker.
He is described as a black man about 5 feet 11 with a medium build, a round face and a stubble beard. He was wearing a black DC jacket with blue letters.
The woman worked with a sketch artist to create a composite of him in hopes the public can identify the attacker.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Rey Punzalan at 253-830-5000.
