Fire damages Auburn grocery store

Fire broke out Thursday at a grocery store in the Lakeland Hills area of Auburn, forcing firefighters to evacuate the building.

Fire broke out Thursday at a grocery store in the Lakeland Hills area of Auburn, forcing firefighters to evacuate the building.

No injuries were reported at the Haggen Foods, 1406 Lake Tapps Parkway SE.

The Valley Regional Fire Authority reported the blaze began in the deli area of the store about 5:50 p.m. An immediate cause was not reported.

Photos posted on the authority’s Twitter page showed dark gray smoke billowing from the building.

The authority said the building sustained extensive smoke and water damage.
