Tacoma man suspected in drive-by shooting held on $350,000 bail
A Tacoma man charged with shooting at his baby’s grandfather is being held in jail in lieu of $350,000 bail.
Jhamaul Thierry, 26, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of first-degree assault, drive-by shooting, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and first-degree driving on a suspended license.
Pierce County Superior Court Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered Thierry to have no contact with his child, the child’s mother, the child’s grandfather or Thierry’s girlfriend.
She also approved a protection order barring Thierry from getting near the child’s grandfather.
The shooting happened about 9:20 p.m. Feb. 24 after the mother of Thierry’s child went to pick the baby up and got into a fight with Thierry’s current girlfriend.
The mother was able to get home safely with the child after the scuffle.
Hours later, the woman’s father was standing in the front yard with friends and family members when a pickup truck drove by and Thierry got out and fired five to 10 times, according to charging papers.
The child’s grandfather returned fire, shooting six to 10 times. Prosecutors said the grandfather has a concealed weapons permit for the gun he used.
No one was struck by the gunfire.
Witnesses said they overheard Thierry talking before the shooting about how his baby’s mother needed a beating and, “I’ll take her dad too,” records state.
He was arrested at his apartment the next day.
