Two young children missing from Lakewood found safe
Lakewood police said Friday they found two young children who were reported missing the night before.
Police did not say where the 2-year-old and 2-month-old were found but said the kids were unharmed.
Information about whether the children were intentionally taken was not immediately available.
The children were last seen at 11 p.m. Thursday when their mother left them in a car with an acquaintance and went inside a convenience store in the 10800 block of Pacific Highway Southwest, police said.
When the mother came back, the car and the children were gone.
Police were trying to identify the two adults reportedly inside the car, which was described as a light blue 1991 Toyota Corolla with a broken window covered with tape.
Police Lt. Jeff Alwine said the children had been considered endangered because officers did not know where they were or whom they were with.
The 28-year-old mother struggles with addiction and was not clear about the incident, Alwine said. Detectives were continuing to interview her.
“We just don’t know what happened,” he said.
