A 60-year-old Orting man was killed and four others injured Friday in a car crash near the intersection of state Routes 167 and 512 outside Puyallup.

The crash occurred about 4:10 p.m., the State Patrol reported.

Troopers said a 1994 Izuzu pickup driven by a 55-year-old Tacoma man was southbound on Route 167 when it slammed into a Nissan Murano, which apparently was stopped for traffic on the highway. The Murano lurched forward and struck a Chevrolet pickup that was stopped just ahead of it.

The man who died was a passenger in the Izuzu. His name was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt.

The Izuzu driver was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup for treatment.

The Murano’s driver, a 45-year-old woman, was injured, as were her two passengers, a 13-year-old girl and a 1-year-old girl. They all live in Milton. The woman was taken to Tacoma General and the girls to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 32-year-old Puyallup man, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
