Puyallup man struck, killed on state Route 167
A 43-year-old man was killed early Saturday when he was struck by a car while walking across state Route 167.
The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle so far is not facing criminal charges in causing the death of Bennie Smith of Puyallup, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Smith was in the road about 1:15 a.m. when the driver’s 2006 Ford Mustang hit him.
The State Patrol listed the driver’s “inattention” as the cause of the accident. The driver was not arrested.
Police on Saturday could not say whether Smith was crossing the road at an unsafe spot.
The accident took place near Gay Road.
