Man offers ride to University Place students, police say

Two Sunset Primary School students told school officials that a man in a parked car offered them a ride as they were walking home Tuesday, according to a letter to parents.

The students ran away from the car, which was on Beckonridge Drive West near 97th Avenue, University Place School District deputy superintendent Jeff Chamberlin wrote.

The students said the man who spoke to them from the passenger seat was a black man in his late teens with short, curly hair. He was wearing a gray shirt.

They did not see the driver of the newer small purple sedan.

A school resource officer talked with the students Wednesday and they gave a similar account, Police Chief Mike Blair said.

Police are investigating and looking for a car matching the description, Blair said.

Police do not believe there is a link between this incident and a recent attempted luring of a Narrows View Intermediate School student.
