Lakewood police sergeant watches drive-by shooting, catches suspects
Two men driving in Lakewood must have forgotten to look both ways Saturday night when they crossed the street, because they might have seen the police officer parked in the middle of the road.
They didn’t, because they opened fire on other vehicles as they fled Wards Lake Park while the police sergeant watched from an unmarked vehicle, spokesman Lt. Chris Lawler said Monday.
Nobody was hurt in the shooting.
The sergeant pursued the men in their vehicle out of the park at 2716 84th St. S., and the men crashed their vehicle a short distance away, Lawler said.
Police recovered guns and drugs from the vehicle.
The two men were arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail.
The passenger is being held on suspicion of drive-by shooting, first-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and third-degree malicious mischief.
The driver is being held on the same possible charges, as well as attempting to elude a police vehicle and violating probation.
