Tacoma man arrested in Maple Valley fatal wreck
A 27-year-old Tacoma man was arrested after a Tuesday morning wreck near Maple Valley that killed a 53-year-old man from there, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
The Tacoma man was arrested and, after a trip to an area hospital, was taken to the King County Regional Justice Center in Kent and held on suspicion of vehicular homicide, the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.
An infant in the back seat of the Tacoma man’s car was unhurt in the accident.
According to a Sheriff’s Office news release:
A sheriff’s deputy on his way to work saw the Tacoma man’s car driving recklessly on state Route 18 and tried to pull him over about 5:40 a.m., but the man sped off, and the deputy stopped pursuing.
Five minutes later, another deputy came across the car on Issaquah-Hobart Road. It appeared to have crossed from the southbound lane to the northbound lane and collided with another vehicle head-on.
Deputies attempted to arrest the Tacoma man, but he was combative before being subdued with a Taser.
After the man’s arrest, deputies found the infant in a car seat, safely strapped in.
The Maple Valley man died at the scene.
