One man held on $1.5 million bail, another might lose use of his legs following Lakewood robbery

A man accused of taking a truck at gunpoint and robbing a Lakewood grocery store is being held in lieu of $1,500,000 bail, and another was seriously injured after a patrol car pinned him.

Lee Allen Comenout Jr., 27, was arraigned Friday on two counts of first-degree robbery, and one charge of attempted first-degree robbery.

A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and Pierce County Superior Court Commissioner Meagan Foley set his bail.

Comenout’s prior convictions include hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, drug possession, having another person’s identification and second-degree escape.

Police said another man accused of the robberies, 25-year-old Edward Amos Comenout, was pinned by a patrol car after he fled officers. He was hospitalized, and may lose the use of his legs, according to the prosecutor’s office. Harborview Medical Center had him listed in stable condition Saturday.

He faces the same charges, with the addition of one count of attempting to elude police.

Charging papers give this account:

The men took a light blue F-150 truck from its owner at gunpoint Wednesday in the 600 block of East Harrison Street in Tacoma. When the owner’s son followed, one got out with what looked like a gun, and the son backed off.

Another driver was almost hit by the truck, and honked at it while traveling in the same direction.

The truck driver eventually leaned out and pointed what looked like a handgun at her.

About 20 minutes after then men stole the truck, police received a report of a robbery at Olympic Grocery at 12928 Bridgeport Way SW, in which cash, lottery tickets, a wallet and a cellphone were taken.

The suspects were in the same truck. When officers arrived and tried to stop it, it wove in and out of traffic, and crashed into another car.

Lee Comenout tried to flee, but police caught him quickly, and found him with cash and a cellphone that belonged to a victim of the store robbery.

Edward Comenout fled toward a gas station, armed with a handgun, and tried to take a vehicle there, before officers saw the gun and pinned him.

He has not yet been arraigned.

Court records do not list an attorney for either man.

It wasn’t immediately clear how or if the men are related.
