Puyallup Tribe names Puyallup native as Chief Leschi Schools superintendent
Chief Leschi Schools’ interim superintendent has been named to the job permanently.
The Puyallup Tribal Council appointed Marc Brouillet on June 30 to lead the 635-student school district.
Brouillet signed a three-year contract that can be extended.
“I am excited for this opportunity to continue the work we are doing at Chief Leschi Schools to create a highly effective system that prepares students for their future goals and aspirations,” Brouillet said.
He moved to the district in 2016 as the human resources director, according to a press release from the Puyallup Tribe.
Brouillet graduated from Puyallup High School and attended college in Hawaii, where he received a a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education leadership.
The Puyallup native returned to teach in his hometown’s elementary and secondary schools, the press release said.
Brouillet was assistant principal at Ballou Junior High School and principal at Zeiger Elementary, before becoming assistant superintendent for the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District for two and a half years, and an assistant superintendent for Yelm Community Schools for five years.
The Tribal Council said in a statement that Brouillet led the district through “one of its most challenging years, which included a pandemic and the transition to a distance-learning model.”
The district served 52,000 meals since school closures on March 16.
“Under his leadership, students did not have a break in their learning and families received the support they needed,” the statement said. “He’s a proven leader.”
Chief Leschi Schools teaches students from preschool through grade 12, with 58 tribes represented. An estimated 60 percent of students are members of the Puyallup Tribe.
