Clover Park High School considers four options to replace its previous Warriors mascot
Clover Park High School will choose from four options for its new mascot.
The high school in Lakewood previously announced its intent to change its current mascot, the Warriors, to comply with a new state law prohibiting the inappropriate use of Native American names, symbols and imagery in public school names, mascots, logos or team names.
The four options, narrowed down by student input, are:
- Dragons
- Grizzlies
- Mustangs
- Timberwolves
The public is invited to give input in an online survey (Espanol) between now and Dec. 13.
The survey can be found at cphs.cloverpark.k12.wa.us.
As part of the new law, public schools located in counties containing all or part of a tribal reservation or tribal trust land must consult with tribes on any needed name or mascot changes. Clover Park School District previously said it has been in contact with the Puyallup Tribe about the law.
“The Tribe expects our school district partners to do their due diligence in researching current mascots, logos, and team names and making their best effort to address any inappropriate use of Native American names, symbols, or images prior to contacting the Puyallup Tribe for input and consultation,” the Puyallup Tribe shared on its website.
