Charter school to hold ceremony
The Soar Academy Public Charter School, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday School tours will conducted, staff will be available for questions and refreshments will be served. District critic to fill board vacancy
The Peninsula School Board has appointed Jerry Gibbs to fill a vacancy in District 4. He will serve in the position, recently vacated by the resignation of Harlan Gallinger, until November election results are certified.
Gibbs has been a district critic. He has successfully campaigned against recent district tax proposals through a group called Citizens for Responsible Spending. He recently led the movement to place a referendum on a proposed Pierce County administration building on the November ballot.
District honored for work with military youth
The Steilacoom Historical School District and the Clover Park School District were recently recognized with the LTG (Ret) H.G. ‘Pete’ Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award from the Military Child Education Coalition. The award encourages and applauds partnerships formed between military installations and schools districts that serve military children. The school districts partnered with Madigan Adolescence School-Based Health Clinic and Madigan Army Medical Center. The partnership program is designed to promote physical, behavioral and emotional well-being of military dependent adolescent students on school campuses.
