The University of Washington Tacoma will hold its Convocation on Friday.

The public is invited to the event, which is a community celebration that welcomes incoming students and their families to the school and the city. Students, their families, faculty, staff and alumni will walk in procession to the campus, where they will hear speeches from UWT Chancellor Mark Pagano and Tacoma Deputy Mayor David Boe.

Afterward, there will be a Community Fair featuring local businesses and nonprofit organizations.

The processions begin at 1:45 p.m. People can start at one of two locations: The Broadway Center, 901 Broadway; or the Museum of Glass, 1801 Dock St.

Pagano and others will welcome everyone at the UWT campus around 2:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend, but the university asks people to register.
