Steilacoom parents: Check your child’s backpack for survey
On Monday (Oct. 19), the Steilacoom Historical School District will send this year’s Impact Aid survey home with students. The survey information is confidential and allows the school district to obtain federal impact aid in lieu of property taxes. Families are asked to complete the form, sign and date it and return it with their students to school. A completed survey is required for each student. For more information call 253-983-2238.
Puyallup habla español
The Puyallup School District has set up a message telephone line to help Spanish-speaking families with questions about topics ranging from grading and school registration to attendance boundaries and district policies. The message line, offered through the district’s Office of Equity and Achievement is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week through June 30 at 253-604-3300.

Mobile app helps Lakewood parents track school info
A new mobile app has been launched by the Clover Park School District that gives parents and guardians access to their student’s information, school calendars and other district information. It works on both smart phones and tablets and also gives families access to their Skyward Family Access account with information on family and emergency contacts, assignments and grades, attendance, class schedules and messages from schools or teachers.
It is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store under Clover Park School District. Information on the new app is also available on the district and school websites.
Two Steilacoom students head to leadership program at West Point
Sierra Flake and Noah Burlingame from Steilacoom High School have been selected to attend the 2015 Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program to be held at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. The two were selected along with a total of 12 students from across the country. The application process included a resumé, essay, recommendations and evidence of good academic standing and attendance.
Deadline for Salishan kids’ savings program extended
The Children’s Savings Account program sponsored by the Tacoma Housing Authority has extended the deadline to apply to Oct. 26. The program is open to Tacoma Public School kindergarten students living in the Salishan housing authority development or who enroll at Lister Elementary School, and to sixth-grade students who live in Salishan and enroll at First Creek Middle School.
