English language arts materials preview for Clover Park schools
The Clover Park School District hosts an English language arts instructional materials showcase for the public at two sessions. It will give teachers, administrators, parents and community members an opportunity to preview and submit comments on sixth through 12th grade instructional materials.
Showcases are 1-6 p.m. Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 at the school district’s Student Services Center, 10903 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Lakewood. For information, call 253-583-5143.
Scott Blair earns Eagle Scout rank
Scott Blair achieved the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 248 Pacific Harbors Council. His project was rebuilding the pump house at The Church on the Hill in University Place. Blair supervised 11 scouts and two adults for a total of 20 hours of community service.
All-day kindergarten coming to Chloe Clark
Chloe Clark Elementary School in the Steilacoom School District will offer tuition-free full-day kindergarten for the 2016-17 school year. Anderson Island Elementary School and Cherrydale Primary School currently offer full-day kindergarten. Registration starts in March.
Peninsula superintendent search meetings scheduled
The Peninsula School District holds a series of special board meetings to assist in the search for a new superintendent. Superintendent Chuck Cuzzetto is resigning at the end of the school year after 31 years in education.
The meeting schedule:
▪ 4 p.m. Feb. 11, District Office, Boardroom
Open to the public. Northwest Leadership Associates will give an update on progress of the superintendent search and a report on the focus group results. No action will be taken at this meeting.
▪ 5 p.m. Feb. 29, District Office, Boardroom
Executive session (not open to public) to evaluate qualifications of superintendent candidate applicants. No action will follow the executive session.
▪ 8:30 a.m. March 5, District Office, Boardroom
Open to the public. Preliminary interviews of semi-finalist candidates for superintendent, followed by an executive session (not open to public) to further evaluate qualifications of applicants. Action will be taken after the executive session.
▪ 6 p.m. March 14-16, Henderson Bay High School
Community Forum: A question-and-answer session for the public with the superintendent candidate.
Executive session (not open to public): further evaluation, interview with the superintendent candidate. No action will follow March 14 and March 15. The board expects to take action after the executive session March 16.
Truman student wins Tacoma Rainiers contest
Tacoma seventh-grader Kelsey Monaghan-Bergson is this year’s winner of the Tacoma Rainiers jersey design contest.
Kelsey, a student at Truman Middle School, submitted a design with an argyle motif that will be worn on the field by the team on Tacoma School District night April 23. The specialty jerseys will be available through a silent auction April 23. Proceeds benefit Tacoma Public Schools.
