Orting School Board President Iris Lilley dies

Orting School Board President Iris Lilley has died, according to an announcement on the school district website.

Wednesday’s announcement from Orting Superintendent Marci Shepard said “our school community experienced a tragedy yesterday, with the death of our School Board President Iris Lilley.”

No cause of death was listed on the webpage.

Lilley joined the Orting School Board in January 2014, appointed to fill a vacancy in the board’s District No. 3 position. She was re-elected to the seat in November.

Shepard’s announcement noted that Lilley was a 13-year resident of Orting and an employee at Microsoft.

“Our students, staff and schools greatly benefited from her expertise and passion for education,” Shepard’s note said.
